City Opens First Recycling Drop-Off Facility in Sea Point

The City of Cape Town’s Solid Waste Department will open its first waste drop-off facility completely dedicated to recycling, on 1 December 2010 in Sea Point. The Sea Point Recycling Drop-off Facility in Tramway Road will allow City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard residents, who currently do not have a recycling service, to put their recyclable rubbish to good use.

The new site is also a 2010 Green Goal Legacy project, and is the first of its kind in Cape Town. It will be used exclusively for recyclable materials, such as glass, plastic, paper, cardboard, and cans, which can be dropped off free of charge.

The facility will give residents who are not part of the City’s ‘Think Twice’ initiative an opportunity to be part of the recycling community. All recyclables from the waste stream will be recovered and sold or donated to the manufacturing stream for re-use. Those residents whose recyclable materials are already being collected by Waste Plan (Camps Bay and surrounds), or Mandla Recycling (flats and businesses in Sea Point and surrounds), should please continue to support these ‘Think Twice’ contracts.

The City strongly encourages all those in the City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard areas who do not currently benefit from a recycling service to take their recyclable waste to the Sea Point Recycling Facility.
