Launch of the First MyCiTi cycling Route

Grab your bicycle – and helmet– and join us on Tuesday, 1 February 2011 to launch the first major Non-Motorised Transport route of the City of Cape Town’s new MyCiTi system.

A mass ride will take place from Woodbridge Island, Milnerton into town, to show that commuting to work by bicycle on these new lanes, dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists, is easy and fun. Media, cyclists and dignitaries will gather at Woodbridge Island, Milnerton, between 6:30am and 6:45am.

The Cape Town Mayor, Dan Plato, and Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Elizabeth Thompson, will welcome all.

The group departs at 6.45am for the 8km ride into central Cape Town. The peloton will travel at an average cadence of 60 rpms enjoying the slipstream of the team leaders.

Domestiques from the City, and local cycling organisations, will ensure the safety and comfort of everyone.

Skateboarders and rollerbladers are welcometo join the ride.

Cyclists near the Civic Centre can catch one of several buses from the Civic Centre Station on Hertzog Boulevard at 6am for Woodbridge Station. Phone 021 462 1706 by 26 January 2011 to book a place on the bus.

Non-cyclists can also catch the 6am buses from the Civic Centre Station. The buses will return from Woodbridge Station to Civic Centre Station at approximately 7am
