INFECTING THE CITY returns to Cape Town next February (21 – 26) to shake up and energize the CBD with provocative, high quality and innovative public art.
The Cape is a trove of treasures: so many different cultures, traditions and heritages. ITC 2011: ‘Treasure’ says: “Look at what we’ve got!” It invites everyone to appreciate, claim and celebrate the riches that we in Cape Town often overlook, discard or are not even aware of.
The dynamic hub of ITC 2011, where several public arts events will take place, will be the newly refurbished Forecourt of the Cape Town Station – the ‘Gateway to the City’, celebrating it’s 150th anniversary in 2011. The Forecourt is a vast plaza traversed by tens of thousands of commuters every day. For a week ITC will bring these commuters in touch with the arts on a daily basis.
In public spaces around this hub several cutting-edge artists will present interventions and performance-pieces that respond to the ‘Treasure’ theme, and three mobile stages – the ‘Jewel
