Cape Town Carnival: Celebrating Street Life

Feathers and fire delight the spectators.

The Cape Town Carnival once again united the city for a day of fun, creativity and communal celebration. An estimated 50 000 people flocked to the Fan Walk on Saturday, 12 March 2016, to shimmy, shake and dance in celebration of our city.

More than 50 talented community groups from around the greater Cape Town area performed dances and acts that represented their interpretation of the Street Life theme – celebrating the people and dynamics at play in a public space; without which our streets would be just bricks and concrete. The carnival was an excellent example of how creativity can be a catalyst for placemaking as people from all walks of life came together to witness the celebration of all things Cape Town.
