AMAZA! Cape Town Carnival 2017 in pics

Thousands of spectators were treated to a dazzling music, dance and costume parade, as the Cape Town Carnival wended its way along the Green Point Fan Walk on Saturday, 18 March.

The theme for this year’s extravaganza was AMAZA! Ocean Odyssey and saw participants shimmer and shine in the brilliant colours of the underwater world. There were mermaids and molluscs, beach babes and barnacles, clams and crayfish and at the centre of everything – a gorgeous ocean goddess and the African sun.

More than magnificent spectacle and colourful fun, however, the Cape Town Carnival is all about getting ALL Capetonians out and about in celebration of their city. This year, 50 diverse community groups from all over the metro participated in the parade, dancing alongside acclaimed international acts such as New York-based singer Oshri and performers from Brazil’s famous Rio Carnival.

The parade was followed by a fabulous street party with local award-winning DJs Fresh and Euphonik entertaining the crowds.
