Business Areas Network

The Cape Town Partnership established the Cape Town Business Areas Network in September 2006 with a mandate from the City of Cape Town to to create an enabling environment for economic growth and job creation in the Cape Town metropolitan region. This will be achieved through the sharing of knowledge and information about urban management and development strategies and practices amongst large and small, established and emerging, and commercial, industrial and mixed-use business areas.

What is the Business Areas Network?Sign in Athlone CBD

Cape Town is a multi-nodal, metropolitan economy, with a variety of commercial, industrial and mixed-use business nodes. Some are well-established with good infrastructure, attracting investment and jobs, while others are emerging or in decline.

The Cape Town Business Areas Network is based on the understanding that all business areas face common challenges. They require sound management and need to offer a stable environment to attract investment, to create employment opportunities, and to have sustainable markets for their goods and services.

The Partnership believes that business areas should aim to be competitive, but not necessarily in competition with each other. We further believe that it is in the interests of the city as a whole that all business areas perform optimally, regardless of their scale or function. There is a particular need to assist with the upgrade and development of business areas in previously disadvantaged areas.

The goal of the Business Areas Network is therefore to create an enabling environment for economic growth and job creation in the Cape Town metropolitan region through the sharing of information and knowledge about urban management and development strategies and practices amongst business areas. Membership is open to all public and private organisations involved in urban management and development initiatives in Cape Town’s business areas. Meetings are held in different nodes, and usually include a walking tour of the local area.
