Cape Town FIFA Fan Fest to Celebrate Italian Day Today – Monday 14 June

The Cape Town FIFA Fan Fest was poised to fall under Roman rule today (Monday 14 June) as Italians and their supporters planned to converge on the Grand Parade to celebrate ahead of their team’s match with Paraguay in the evening.

The Forza Italia team will arrive from 14h45 appropriately wearing azzuri blue for their team, and decked in the orange and green of the Italian flag.  They will remain at the Bacinis catering stand at the Fan Fest, before making their way to the stadium around 17h00.

From 18h00 popular band BLK Sonshine will entertain the crowds with African rhythm, acoustic melodies and locally inspired lyrics.  The band needs little introduction to fans as their first hit, Born in a Taxi has long resonated with South Africans.

From 19h15 until the close of the Fan Fest at 23h00, Coda will take to the stage and visitors can be sure they will hear the band’s soccer anthem Blow your vuvuzela. The music will break at 20h30 when revellers will be able to watch the game life on the big screen.

Other highlights of the week include the Portuguese supporters Luso Festa! On Tuesday, Youth Day on Wednesday and the attempt to break a world Diski dancing record, Chillax Day on Thursday and a celebration of all things English on Friday, when England play.

Meanwhile, some 7000 Brazilian fans – mainly men – arrived in Cape Town on Saturday ahead of Brazil’s first game on Tuesday 15 June.

They will set up camp at Casa Little Brazil, the home of the Brazilian fans at the Sea Point Civic Centre which will open in time for Brazil’s first game.

The music, the food and the drinks will all be purely Brazilian.

The venue can only accommodate 300 fans, so a second Casa Little Brazil is to be opened at the V & A Waterfront .

Calvyn Gilfillan, CEO of Cape Town Routes Unlimited, said the demand from fans, including South Africans and other countries has been overwhelming.

“We are delighted with the response, but it was obvious that one Casa Little Brazil would not be big enough. So we are opening another one on Monday at the V & A where all the other countries have their fan base too,” said Gilfillan.

“This venue will have a cosmopolitan mix of music, food and drinks.”

Casa Little Brazil in Sea Point will open on Tuesday 15 June. Tickets will be available from Computicket at R60, from Tuesday morning.

The V & A Waterfront’s Lookout Village, with its panoramic views of Table Mountain and the V & A Waterfront, is only 300 metres away from the Cape Town Stadium. The Village is located on the Breakwater Carpark Rooftop, offering a range of entertainment, and a host of food and beverage options to please any palate.

Tickets for this venue are R150 each from Computicket, but Cape Town Routes Unlimited will be selling them for R100. All fans have to do for this discount is to go and buy them at the CTRU Gateway Centre in the Clock Tower section of the V & A.

There are only 200 tickets available per night, so hurry!
