Council Approves a Range of MyCiTi Fares

The Cape Town City Council yesterday approved a range of fares for passengers using both the existing MyCiTi airport bus shuttle and the inner-city service which is planned to begin operating in the last week of September 2010.

These fares, some of which include discounts, seek to make the services accessible to as many people as possible.

On the airport shuttle, tickets for children aged four to 11 will cost R25.00 each – half the standard R50.00 adult fare. Children under the age of four can travel for free. A ticket aimed at airport workers will offer an unlimited number of trips per month, at a cost of R400.00 (these tickets are non-transferable).

The airport shuttle runs between Civic Centre Station on Hertzog Boulevard and the airport, and departs every 20 minutes. The new airport tickets will be available from 20 September 2010.

The new inner city service will run between the Civic Centre Station and the V & A Waterfront, Cape Town railway station, the Loop and Long Street areas, and up to the Gardens Centre. This service is expected to commence in the last week of September. A standard ticket will cost just R5.00

A ticket for one week of unlimited travel on the inner city service will cost R40.00. A one-month clip card, which is valid for 10 trips in the month is also available for R40.00. Visitors to the city can purchase a ticket which provides one day of unlimited travel at R15.00.

Tickets for hotels, event organisers, and other larger users (including interested retail outlets) will be discounted by 20% when bought in bulk, subject to certain conditions.
