Portuguese and Brazilian fans are invited to proudly fly their flags at the FIFA Fan Fest on the Grand Parade on Friday, 26 June. Both Portuguese speaking nations meet in a Group G match in Durban at 16h00.Mozambiquan Afro-pop band Ghorwane will entertain Portuguese and Brazilian visitors on stage between 18h00 and the start of the Group H match at 20h30.
Ghorwane
In the hot and dusty Gaza province of Mozambique is a small lake called Ghorwane that never runs dry, even in the hottest season. In 1983, a group of young musicians from Maputo claimed the name Ghorwane as they launched their musical career. Today they are one of Mozambique’s most respected bands.
Ghorwane chose to base their music on traditional Mozambican rhythms, combined with Afro-pop and fusion. At the time, when most established groups earned a living by imitating foreign artists, this approach was very different, and inspired other bands to experiment similarly.
The band is noted for the political and social criticism in their songs, sung in the African languages of Mozambique [Changana, Ronga and Chope].
The band is made up of Roberto Chitsonzo on vocals and rhythm guitar, David Macuácua on percussion and vocals, João Carlos Schwalbach on keyboards, Julio Baza and António Baza on trumpet, Pedro Rijo on saxophone, Bass Guitar – Lote on bass, Paíto Tcheco on drums and Enrique on percussion.
