Empower yourself: safety tips

Cape Town Central City Improvement District reminds you to empower yourself:

At the ATM
Concentrate on your transaction, don’t be distracted. Don’t accept assistance from strangers or divulge your pin number to anyone. Ensure the person behind you stands well away from you. Cover the keypad when entering your pin.

On foot
Do not carry large sums of cash on your person. Never carry your wallet in your back pocket. Carry handbags close to your person. Do not flaunt valuable items e.g. expensive jewellery, cameras, cell phones.

In your vehicle
When stationary at intersections be constantly aware of your surroundings. Keep handbags and other valuables out of view, preferably in the boot. Remove all valuables when leaving your vehicle unattended & lock up! Do not give to those begging, give to a registered NGO instead*

Don’t create dependency, rather support organisations that offer alternatives.
