News of Cape flats IRT link brings Cape Town closer to its liveable city goals

Mayor Patricia de Lille’s announcement of the City of Cape Town’s draft budget for the coming financial year brought good news for beleaguered commuters from the Cape flats. The IRT is set to be expanded to include key routes to Khayelitsha and Mitchell’s Plain, which will effectively service between 75 and 80% of the city’s commuters. Continued…

Cape Town makes the World Design Capital shortlist

Cape Town received the welcome news on 21 June 2011 that the city has been shortlisted for World Design Capital 2014. From a team of 56 hopefuls, Cape Town now stands alongside just two other world cities – Dublin and Bilbao – in the race to earn the World Design Capital title, which will be announced in October 2011.  Continued…

Our Journey Has Only Just Begun

The recent successful launch of the new phases of the MyCiTi transport system is a further significant milestone in the development of Cape Town as a liveable city. On Monday, 9 May 2011, the West Coast sector of the MyCiTi/Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)  network on the R27 between the Table View and Civic Centre bus stations (or the Table View red trunk route) commenced in a pilot phase between 09h00 and 15h00 daily. On Saturday 14 May 2011, the full trunk service started operating with the buses stopping at all stations along the trunk route.  Continued…
