The most anticipated event on the marketing and advertising industry calendar, the Annual Loerie Awards, will be hosted in Cape Town from 24-27 September. While the Awards Ceremonies will take place in the Good Hope Centre and some of the daytime entertainment in Camps Bay, Long Street will be transformed into the Loerie Village with colourful “Ego’s” painted on buildings. As the official after and before party zone the street will be a hive of activity for the duration of the festival with events that included the Battle of the Bands as well as the Mayor’s Welcome Party and live music until the early morning hours.

According to Loerie Awards CEO, Andrew Human, Long Street is the perfect venue as it provides a vibrant and creative inner-city environment that is unique to Cape Town. “We needed a place where delegates could stay and hang out close together for most of the Loerie Festival period. Long Street’s diversity made it the perfect venue as you can find anything from backpackers’ lodges to five star hotels and street food vendors to fine dining restaurants, all within walking distance of each other. As an added bonus the place has an abundance of creativity and character.”
The 31st Annual Loerie Awards will see more than 3 500 professionals attending the Awards Ceremony alone and many more enjoying the festivities in Long Street.

Following on the success of the Loerie Festival and the City of Cape Town is also currently considering Long Street to be the festival venue for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final Draw. According to Shameel Ho-Kim, project manager of the City of Cape Town’s 2010 office, Long Street is already a natural gathering place for Capetonians and visitors to the city and naturally one of the potential venues for the Final Draw festival to be held on December 4. “The idea behind the event is to bring the Final Draw to the people of Cape Town via live screening. The final draw at the CTICC will be broadcast to over 700 million people worldwide. We want Cape Town to be festive during the final draw, showcasing great local entertainment before and after the Final Draw, ensuring access to all with free entry.”
